The Cisadane river in Indonesia has accumulated large amounts of waste after the country’s landfill collapsed in late May. When the pandemic hit, the medical waste overwhelmed the landfill, causing the walls to collapse. Now, the river that provides 80% of the water supply for locals is contaminated with hazardous medical waste. The residents that live near this river depend on it for cooking, cleaning, bathing, and clothes washing. The river is also a place for their children to play.
