This article talks about how the pandemic lockdown led to two suicides at the Air Force Academy. While most other schools sent students home, the Air Force Academy decided to keep their seniors on campus. Life at a military academy, in general, is already very strict, so the addition of new restrictions due to COVID-19 must have been too much for these students. Something that they didn’t talk about is what resources the academy has for mental health, and if these students had shown any signs of suicidal thoughts and/or depression before the lockdown. The article states that the reason these students were kept on campus is due to a pilot shortage in the Air Force. While this may be a legitimate reason to be on campus, there should have been more resources available for these students during this time.
